Being a Scholar

Before I start, the scope of our topic today covers this definition of scholars: Anyone who receives any financial aid from other sources other than their parents to pursue their studies. Zankyu~~ :)

Living abroad for only about 4 months now is already enough to prove how fortunate it is to be a sponsored student. I mean, look at how lucky we are to have been sponsored that we can buy this and that, travel here and there. BUT one thing that bothers me most is those people who spend their money their sponsor's money recklessly without even considering whether they really deserve it or not. Phones, laptops are maybe a need. . . But, c'mon guys, buying extra phones, PSP,  other game consoles, a 24-inch TV, and gadgets are not really a necessity for now (I'm talking bout as students). . . =w=

Something I made during sharing session. . . I am not that knowledgeable bout these stuffs, but am willing to share whatever knowledge I feel worth sharing. So feel free to check the slides out. :)

Apocalypse Please~

2012. A very controversial year for all of us. I bet semua korang dah tengok 2012 kan? And to be honest, saya sendiri agak 'ketaq lutut' gak la tengok that movie, imagining kalau la that event is real. :O And if betul la the end is at 211212, we have like 9 days to go!!! (i'm writing this at 091212).

Raising Our So Called Voices!

Assalamualaikum! :)

"Freedom of speech" is something BIG nowadays. People keep on wanting it, urging for their so called human rights etc. . . But what's really happening is that, TOO many people urging this whole freedom of speech actually causes it to be something not so new anymore. :/ In fact, if you ask me, I'm actually quite tired of hearing all these nonsensical stuffs about the rights of raising our voices. It's not that I'm totally against it, I mean, there are at some points we need to make our voices heard (i.e world hunger, human trafficking, child abuse, civil wars) , but the whole idea of having freedom of speech becomes like a trend now rather than as a tool to really fight for a noble cause. I mean, look at us now, we're fighting for things that are not worth our time (i.e LGBT, homosexual marriage, censorship of information, etc). Everything has its pros and cons (Y). But it becomes more and more complicated at the end of the day as people demand more and more things to be liberalized. Wow! What about that~! So I'm guessing this is what the Malays usually say "dah bagi betis, nak paha". . . The more we get, the more we demand. We can never be satisfied with what we've gotten. *sigh~

So before I start, the general idea of freedom of speech based on Wikipedia is basically . . .

"the political right to communicate one's opinions and ideas. The term freedom of expression is sometimes used synonymously, but includes any act of seeking, receiving and imparting information or ideas, regardless of the medium used. In practice, the right to freedom of speech is not absolute in any country and the right is commonly subject to limitations, as with libel, slander, obscenity, sedition (including, for example inciting ethnic hatred), copyright violation, revelation of information that is classified or otherwise"

Gender Inequality

To start, perempuan zaman sekarang should be really really thankful that they were not born in the past where men and the whole society were extremely biased towards men. So extreme that masa zaman Arab Jahiliah, kalau perempuan lahirkan anak perempuan, ditanamnya hidup hidup budak tu!! In India, a daugher = a hell of a burden sebab they are expensive to raise and have to pay an expensive dowry during weddings. The list goes on and on. . . . .

But is there still inequality around us?? YESS!! And I have to say, both sides are experiencing it. . .

The FORGOTTEN people

FREEZE~! We need your help guys. Please make sure you scroll down and read the whole post on this one to aid the less fortunate people. . . It's the least we can do for them D:
So before I go to sleep tonight, I'm just gonna make a quick post. It's about the FORGOTTEN people ;(

About two days ago, a friend of mine sent me a link asking me to sign of for a petition for the ROHINGYA PEOPLE.

Who? HUH?? Where? WHAT? HOW??

I know right? And as you've guessed it, YES I've NO clue of WHO the hack are Rohingya people, WHERE they come from, WHY they are in need of this so called petition and most important of all, WHAT happened to them recently. . .

FAR FAR AWAY?? (O,O)

"Oh Me Gosh!" :O "They just broke up??"  "But they just had their anniversary?!" "I mean they were together for like 4 years?" "How could it be?!" "They've been together for 3 years. . ." D: "That's such a bummer" "Perhaps they're just not meant for each other" "Maybe there's someone better in store for her" "What a cheater that guy is" >:@ "Man that girl who stole the guy from her is so b*tchy" "How could he do that to her!?" "I bet he's gonna regret what he did" =o=

These statements/ questions above are usually used to express people's disbelief when couples broke up. As a matter of fact, most couples that broke up usually were in a long distance relationship. And so instead of focusing on the topic, breakups, I'd be talking bout long distance relationships..

LONG DISTANCE RELATIONSHIP: DOOMED. Kidding! trololololol. xDD Um, okay I'll be more serious now. >,< LDR is a relationship held between two people who are separated by distance. Meaning, having no chance to see each other as often compared to the normal-dating-couples. Aww. . . That's such a bummer right?? :C

Blending in with the CROWD

"What's the thing you're wearing called?" "You look better without the shawl" "I love your hair" "Why do you wear it?" "When do you wear it?" "Is it because your religion asks you to wear it?" "I love your brooch" "Love the scarf you're wearing" "I know the Quran doesn't ask the women to cover their faces. It asks to cover all except the face and the hands" "I love how your scarf look today" "Do you take it off sometimes?" "Ouh, how about those women who covers their faces?" "Why do they do that?" "What's it called?" "Isn't it hot when the Muslims wear it in Saudi?" "Do you have to go to the toilet everytime you wanna adjust your scarf?" "What about you, why don't you cover your face?"

Well hullo there, Salamun-alaikum ( Peace be upon you) *to whomever that might be reading this :)

So, I've been meaning to post some insights about this for a long time, but haven't got the chance to and thank God with His permission, I am able to do so today.

Sorry for the very "random" yet "formal" way of starting the post. (Guess I'm suddenly in the mood of using the language full of ethics and i don't know, perhaps courteous somehow? >,O lol)

ZOMBIE is freaking real!!

Left for Dead, Resident Evil. All these games and much more movies have one common thing. ZOMBIES. But is it really true? Or just a myth? What I might be saying maybe be silly to some, but shit, ain't nothing impossible.

To start, let us first goes back to 1968. A movie called 'Night of The Living Dead' directed by Romero. That was one the first time people seen a zombie and had impression on it. Walking like drug addict, mouth full with blood. In Haiti, they actually used voodoo to 'produce' zombies. But it actually looked  just like us, walking like us. The zombies are used as slaves. But actually zombies were already recorded in ancient Indian text, Gilgamesh.

Expect the Unexpected (>,O)

Well, okay so I've experienced a lot of ups and downs here in Canada. . . >,O People might thought "Owh man she's having a blast in Vancouver. Weehee~" :D or, "I wanna be like her", "Man, I can't wait to fly too" etc22. . .

"but yaw~ REALITY CHECK people!"

The thing about studying overseas, you really need to know the purpose why you're here. I mean, if you're here just to have fun, and show off to people "We got snow here! Tralalalala~ :3 " then, forget it. =.= *serious tone* lol. No pressure, but really. *serious tone-again* =..=

So the reason why I'm writing this post here today is coz 1. my brain is stuck with all the homework and assignments that I've gone through *Brain: Have some mercy Mira, I'm about to explodeeeee. . . .  . D:) Moi: Fine22. We should take a break. how bout we go and stalk people on fb? (kidding! lol.)* and 2. I just feel that my world is turning upside down here in a way, really, it's like I'm standing on a round doughnut, and now I'm at the downside up at the bottom part of the doughnut, completely 180 degrees! *well actually not really, I'm just exaggerating using hyperbole for a while there. xD *

My first mid term did not turn out so well as I've expected. And I just feel insecure with the fact that, ouh c'mon Mira, the topics learnt are not all that new?(!) Why aren't you achieving your target?

kenapa hitler benci yahudi?

Anti-semitic. Apa tu? That is a term who a person who hates jews. Kalau kat Malaysia, orang kata la, Tun Mahathir antara orangnya. (saya pun tak pasti). Tapi I think everybody agrees jika saya cakap Adolf Hitler adalah antara tokoh anti-semitic yang sangat popular. Antara buktinya adalah HOLOCAUST or in Malay, 'Kemusnahan Besar'.

Tapi kenapa si Hitler benci sangat dengan orang Yahudi ni? But one thing for sure, we know how much he hates them. Lebih 5 juta lelaki, perempuan dan kanak-kanak Yahudi dibunuh di death camp masing- masing in just 5 years. Bagaimana mereka dibunuh? Senang sahaja. . .

apa jadi kalau kita bukan 'bumi'?

Dulu masa kita lahir, mak ayah dah sibuk kumpul duit untuk beli susu, baju, belajar tadika and more. Pastu masuk sekolah rendah. Then syukur kalau UPSR bagus, dpat masuk MRSM or SBP. Then kalau bagus lagi SPM, dpat biasiswa pergi luar negara or kalau tak dapat pun, masuk UITM pun okay gak dapat elaun. Senang kan sekarang kalau na besarkan anak - anak?

TAK JUGAK!

Malangnya, kelebihan ini dimiliki oleh sekumpulan pihak sahaja iaitu golongan bumiputera.

SUBCULTURE: PUNK- Something you wouldn't have imagined

ENGL 111: Approaches to Non-Fictional Prose (Pop Cultural Studies)

Haha. This course is no doubt interesting to me, but somehow it's confusing because we tend to use a lot of terms that are defined, rather different than what we usually thought. I mean, we are looking at it in a very analytical way, in which sometimes can be very tiring. I mean, it's hard to figure out the concepts that the authors wanna introduce. Sometimes I feel like I'm almost like studying History

I'll be writing an essay about style in which we have to analyze a song and relate it to what we've learnt, but I haven't really found the song I was looking for.. HELP! Eeks! >,<
So basically in this course, we're learning things about how we perceive and look at things, and what influences the so called "pop culture" that we are experiencing today. It's basically split into 3 major things which are:

1. Mediation          2. Style              3. Brand

The New Ninja :P

NIHON GOJU KARATE

So, I just got back from another karate lesson. Though this is not my first class, there's something interesting about our Sensei. Unlike my previous Sensei in Ninjutsu, Sensei Raymond is in his 50's I think. So instead of practicing our punches at the Gym when I was in STF, we practice at the Dojo. And so you'll have the wooden platform covered with mats.

I gotta say the only Malays, well Muslims too I guess are Farhanah and I. As usual, etiquette always comes first in any martial arts. And like before, in Ninja, we would just bow to our Sensei and say "Sensei onagashimasu". But this time it's slightly different, in a way, we have to sit in front of a picture of our Grandmaster (Sort of like the founder) and bow to him too. During that time, my friend and I were a bit blur and we sorta just like lower our heads (not entirely to the floor).

Right after that, and before starting our lesson, he whispered something to the Senpai. Senpai Ian approached us right afterwards and said something we'd never thought he'd say. . .

chantek manakah anda?

"Weh, cantiklah perempuan tu!", "Pergh, hensem betul mamat tu!" Selalu kan kita dengar that word. Either on television or our everyday conversation? Tapi penah korang terfikir, at what level kita boleh panggil orang tu cantik? Kita boleh panggil orang tu kaya sebab duet tu kuantiti boleh kira, tapi yang subjektif mcam mana?

Mengikut John Gray, best selling writer of relationships, kita akan terus tahu orang itu cantek melalui jiwa a.k.a. souls. It is like an automatic feeling and 'SNAP!' kita akan kelaskan orang itu cantik. That's why cantik for a person, maybe not the same for cantik of the person's friends. "Eh apa la kau pilih awek takde 'class' langsung." , tak betul rasanya ckap camtu since we have different definition of beautiful.

Eureka! a new planet discovery 8D

I was in my Chem class and we were studying about silicon compounds when suddenly my prof made a statement that a new planet was discovered and its name is 55 Cancri e. Coolness~! :P

It is said to be twice the size of the Earth, and only 40 light years away! And guess what, the planet is covered with graphite layer and diamonds underneath its layer.8D *singing Beyonce's Diamond is a Girl's Best Friend. LOL. xD * When they asked the Astrophysicists whether humans can go to the planet, they said that it'll take 40 years for only the humans to reach there. WOW. (o,O) That is, if we travel in the speed of light. And right now we are nowhere close to that. Bummer. But still, who wants to stay in space craft for 40 years anyways?? I bet none of the astronauts want it. They'll be singing the astronaut song by Simple Plan xD Get it? *Astronaut singin' the Astronaut. Okay fine I know that was a lame joke =w=*

R.A.C.I.S.M? :O

Really interesting story. A few friends of mine bumped into this one racist guy in the bus who immediately spoke bout Islam loudly in public and how Muslims are terrorists, and yatta22. They didn't even get to sit in the bus yet, and the old guy had opened his mouth and blabbed bout Islam.

Funny thing is that, the guy did not speak directly to them, but instead he spoke loudly with his acquaintance so that the whole bus can hear their conversation. Wow that's a something ayy? But anyways, based on how it happened, the guy started it by saying the Muslims here are immigrants; "What are they doing here in our country?!" sort of rant. He continued saying that that Islam's "Christmas" is called "Eid Mubarak" in Saudi Arabia. And his friend went "Ouh, so why don't we call Christmas, Eid Mubarak too?". The other guy went "NO we can't because this is a CHRISTIAN country". Ouch, somebody pinch me. I just knew that Canada is a Christian country..:O LOL.xD Irony ayy? I don't really see it being truly Christian when they actually allow homosexual marriage here. Oh well.

Things ain't easy here. . .

After one month plus in Canada, I've witnessed a lot of new things and believe it or not, it ain't easy as it looks. Maybe it has something to do with growing up as a part of the process I guess.. I realize that I've become a more of a critical thinker than usual (don't know whether that's a good thing or a bad thing though). Everything here is fine except for sometimes when you have that glitch of moment when you seem to be kinda lost and that's when everything falls apart -And you tend to break down and sit in a corner thinking to yourself "Can I actually do this?" >,<

Well, I just finished my mid term uno here. The seniors told me not to feel bad if I don't get to get the marks that I hoped for. And somehow they were right. For some reason, I don't know why it's such a pressure here. Maybe it's because you realize that people are counting on you and you are expected to achieve more.

Are we alone in this universe?

alien a.k.a makhluk asing. Memang tipu la kalau tak pernah dengar kan?

Have you ever watched ancient aliens on history channel. It consists of ancient astronauts theorists talking about that aliens really really exists! Most of them are atheists, so please make sure you have enough IMAN when watching. They even claimed that aliens = GOD! Pyramids, Machu Pichu, Angkor Wat and even Stonehenge are constructed by them and are signs to prove to us, that they do exists. The theorists also believe that they are the one that caused the meteor rain that killed the dinosaurs 65 million years ago so that it is safe for us, to live in the earth. It won't be really comfortable if every morning, we have to go to the work and avoid being eaten alive by the T-Rex at the same time right? And maybe, according to them, when they are annoyed with us, they will wipe us out easily.

SATU

Hi peeps. this blog belongs to Afiq Najmi Jamsari and Nur Amirah Azman. I, Afiq am currently studying at Taylor's College Subang Jaya, doing Cambridge A Levels. While Amirah here is in the middle of doing her tertiary education at University of British Columbia, Canada. Both of us are under scholarships. The purpose of us doing this blog is not for the fame (well I hope we can) HAHA. but just to share some of our experiences with the society so that you guys and also us can take lessons from it. Kerana kami tahu betapa pentingnya untuk memahami hidup ini untuk melaluinya. (haha. ckap melayu sudah ye?) We will try to talk in both Malay and English so that all of korang will have better understanding. okay! this is our first introduction. Hope you guys will manage to get something out of blog. Salambye. :)

notapakaki: Mira here, :3 just wanna add some bits. and yeah this blog is merely for fun leisure writing. -NOT RANTS. Although sometimes we might rant on certain things -in which I hope not. So here's something for starters,

"Live. Love. Laugh. -Do anything you want with your life. But without a main purpose in it, there's no use of any of the above."

It's like riding a hot air balloon with no spot to land.

The things we'll be talking here I'd say will be of broad range of topics. Some might be dealing with random stuffs, current issues, or perhaps just some thoughts from our own perspectives. Not everything said is wrong nor right in this context. Just that, who knows it might add to others' point of views towards certain things. And the change we hope for is the better of course. :) So have a good day people. ^w^
