So to start off in this post, I'd like to actually dedicate this to a friend of mine, Liyana Syahirah. She reminds me of a great era in STF. :)
This friend of mine is by far one of the most unique persons I've ever met. I remember bumping into her during form 1, when she was all blur and innocently asking for my chocolates during morning assembly.
Little did I know that she'd turn out to be a great person
-A good leader, and a very generous friend.
A good leader in a sense that she knows how to handle the tough crowd amongst the Vocies (our batch) and is always self-composed. Although I am not one of her closest friends, I can say that we had an awful lot of fun whenever we are with each other, even by only talking!
The attachment that she has with everyone around her is just amazing and I can see why people respect her as a leader. Always coming into a compromise, and never forget to rationalize things to our batch.
She also never whined or sighed -well, at least not in front of us; and that had made her one of a kind.
So far, other than my family members, I'd say she's one of the people that I look up to most. Though I'm not considered her as her best friend, she's one of the people that I can trust and confide with. :'}
Leadership ain't easy. Well ain't that NOT surprising (!) =..=
Haha. How can I say it, it's true when people say that you need to lead yourself before you lead others. Being a leader doesn't mean you have to be a headgirl, a prefect, a librarian, a house captain, or whatsoever yatta22. It's simply about taking one step further to guide others in your team. That's the key. I totally object people who thinks prefects are well better off than normal students who aren't prefects. Getting to be a prefect is a privilege (Y), but not a guaranteed leadership. I've witnessed a lot of this during my high school years, those of the prefects can sometimes have of lower self esteem than the normal non-prefect students. So where does this statement come in true? -It all lies in the individuals themselves.
So as for me, having to handle the batch's dinner and main event "sumbangsih 0610" of our final year was challenging. But it's a relief when my batch and I managed to pull them through.
A great leader as far as I'm concerned, cares about his or her fellow team mates as they are the ones who are gonna make the plans flow like a breeze. Sometimes it's important to reward them too apart from motivating them to do work. Being a leader too, requires a compatibility in a way that you mustn't have favoritism in your list. I know most people tend to do this since, well, they'll obviously want to have someone who's easier to work with etc22. But this bias environment is kinda unhealthy. How would your other followers feel?? ):O By compatibility, we actually need to try our best to interact with all our group members so that we no conflicts will occur or whatsoever.
Okay, my bad, favoritism perhaps CAN BE permitted (coz it's kinda like inevitable since for instance compared to A who's very easy to communicate with and efficient, and B who's a bit slow but still as good as A, you might wanna choose A to carry out a task on things that require efficiency and etc22. Thus, causing A to be more favorable to you when it comes to do work coz he or she's fast and efficient). >,O
It's the detestation that needs to be avoided. Coz you see, people sometimes can't separate their personal feelings with their work. In doing something, especially working with people on serious matters that needs to be done, you really need to put your distaste (if you have any) towards that particular person aside. Don't mix it up with business yaww.. It ain't gonna be pretty BE PROFESSIONAL. :@ It wouldn't kill ya if you just lay low a lil bit and set things with a very pleasant tone. LOL. No, but seriously. =o=
Next, being a leader doesn't always mean that you have to be stern, strict and serious all the time (I call it the 3S. lol. xDD), sometimes it's important to build the personal connection between you and your team. So, once in a while, especially when you guys have achieved in completing a project etc22; bring them out, give them a treat or something; anything that makes them feel that they are deeply valued in the organization. Indeed, each head counts! It's okay for them to know your casual side. It breaks the barrier of making them feel you're "not normal" in a way. LOL. xD Keep in touch with their personal lives. You don't need to go that deep, but it's enough for you to know a lil bit about of their family history and background. From there, you might actually build up your own Ohana which consists of people with different parents. :P
If any of your members bail out from the team, just forget about them. Kidding! xD Well, at least try have a one-on-one session and slow talk of what's their reason. It is important that you know what went wrong, it could be your mistake, and it could be others'. So once you know this, you can figure a way on how to change this phenomenon and set things straight. It could be that your members had a fight or something, and that's why you need to talk things through and guess what? IT'S YOUR JOB TO RESOLVE IT. That's the beauty of being a leader. :') And with that, I rest my case. Again you're wrong. TEET!!! We're almost done here though. x)
Be nice to everyone. In general, this is a must for every single person despite whether or not they are a leader. But you need to be extra nice to your followers. Treat them with rights and always value their opinions although you are the decision maker; the one who makes the call. Ouh, and almost forgot, being a leader doesn't mean your THE BOSS whereby you can boss them around all the way. No one likes people who are too bossy..PFFTHH~~ So I'm sure you don't wanna be in that category where people hate you coz you're too bossy. Haha. So what'd I'd recommend here is you have to have empathy. Other than supervising and monitoring all the time, come down the field and help out your team mates once in a while. From there, you'll know how it feels like to carry out the work load, hence you can totally improve your methods on dealing with your fellow team mates in order to achieve your goal -sorry, not your goal, but YOUR GOAL (referring to the team's main goal not your personal goal.. Double d'uh~~ =,=).
So, after doing all this and yatta22, how would you know if you're appreciated and much loved by your team mates??:OO Pfftthh~ That's easy. :3 They'll mention your name even when they're no longer at your service. Pretty much like what I'm doing right now ayy? ;P lolz. That's all for now folks. Toodloo~ ^w^
