Assalamualaikum! :)
"Freedom of speech" is something
BIG nowadays. People keep on wanting it, urging for their so called human rights etc. . . But what's really happening is that,
TOO many people urging this whole freedom of speech actually causes it to be something
not so new anymore.
:/ In fact, if you ask me, I'm actually quite tired of hearing all these nonsensical stuffs about the rights of raising our voices.
It's not that I'm totally against it, I mean, there are at some points we need to make our voices heard (i.e world hunger, human trafficking, child abuse, civil wars) , but the whole idea of having freedom of speech becomes like a trend now rather than as a tool to really fight for a noble cause. I mean, look at us now, we're fighting for things that are not worth our time (i.e LGBT, homosexual marriage, censorship of information, etc).
Everything has its pros and cons (Y). But it becomes more and more complicated at the end of the day as people demand more and more things to be liberalized. Wow! What about that~! So I'm guessing this is what the Malays usually say
"dah bagi betis, nak paha". . . The more we get, the more we demand. We can never be satisfied with what we've gotten. *sigh~
So before I start, the general idea of freedom of speech based on Wikipedia is basically . . .
"the political right to communicate one's opinions and ideas. The term freedom of expression
is sometimes used synonymously, but includes any act of seeking,
receiving and imparting information or ideas, regardless of the medium
used. In practice, the right to freedom of speech is not absolute in any
country and the right is commonly subject to limitations, as with libel, slander, obscenity, sedition (including, for example inciting ethnic hatred), copyright violation, revelation of information that is classified or otherwise"
